Yellow oily sky
Slick with heat
Pressing down like iron
Upon a cowering silent sea
The breathless moment suspended

The beating and the breaking
The jagged light
The bellowing wind
And the ominous taste of metal in the air

Under the fecund green canopy bearing ripening fruit,
the sudden dry whisper of a withered and falling leaf
acknowledges that death, like life, is always present.
